Get that Friday feeling

Mondays seem to come around more frequently than Fridays. What’s that about?

If you love the end of the week much more than the start of it, give yourself something to look forward to each Monday.

Shrug off stress

Being stressed feels like you’re running on empty. When you’re juggling a million commitments, you can’t see how on earth you’ll be able to re-charge enough to get on top of them.

When you’re chasing your tail, the only sensible thing to do is say “stop’. Coming to this class allows you to do that for a little while; long enough to re-connect with yourself and find resources enough to live the rest of the week with some grace and humour.

Saying “stop” at least once each week is a way of being kind to yourself and the people around you. Give yourself 90-minutes of dedicated relaxation. It’ll probably seem much longer; almost as if time has stood still.

What’s the class like?

You’ll start by settling yourself in. Putting aside the worries, concerns, threads and thoughts of the day, you’ll be guided to gently and consciously settle into this moment of living. Right now, it’s time to focus on restoring you.

Once you’ve arrived in the here and now, you’ll begin to do yoga postures that are kind to your body, that help ease out tensions, tightness, and knots. Maybe this will be the first time today, or in a long time, that you’ll remember that you actually have a body, and that it feels right to pay attention to its needs.

After unknotting and untwisting, calming yourself further will happen more easily by adapting the way you breathe. You’ll be guided to focus on your breathing to feel peaceful, centred and well.

All of this leads naturally into Yoga Nidra, a special guided practice that enables deep relaxation and profound clarity. ‘Nidra’ means sleep, and one hour of Yoga Nidra is said to bring the benefits of four hours of sleep. While you will ideally remain fully awake, the levels of relaxation that it’s possible to experience from this simple practice have to be felt to be believed.

Easing into relaxation

Of course, because yoga is your personal experience, none of this is guaranteed. All it’s possible to say is that participants usually leave these classes feeling much more relaxed than when they arrived, and it’s written all over their faces.

The ambience helps with this. In autumn and winter, we indulge ourselves with fleecy blankets, low lighting, the soft glow of candles and, when we most need it, the gentle warmth of under-floor heating.
